In-person ICCASkills course coming to New Zealand
ICCA and Tourism New Zealand are pleased to announce an in-person ICCASkills course will be held in Christchurch, New Zealand this September. This will be the only in-person opportunity to undertake the internationally recognised certification outside Europe in 2024.
Developed by the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) and designed by industry experts, ICCASkills delivers the only globally recognised certification for suppliers in every sector of the meetings industry.
ICCASkills offers two unique certification tracks: the CICS (Certified International Convention Specialist) for junior professionals, and CICE (Certified International Convention Executive) for those in management roles.
A CICE in-person class will run from 10-12 September at Te Pae Christchurch Convention Centre and will be facilitated by ICCA’s expert international instructors Deanna Varga and Juan José García. Both international and New Zealand events professionals are invited to register. Attendees will also have an opportunity to participate in a post-training activity programme within New Zealand (at their own cost), details to be confirmed at a later date.
Speaking of the initiative, Tourism New Zealand General Manager NZ & Business Events Bjoern Spreitzer says: “Business Events are a key part of Tourism New Zealand’s strategy to attract high-quality visitors who positively benefit New Zealand’s nature, culture, society, and economy.
Business events are all about people – it is important to invest in our people in the industry and educate and elevate New Zealand’s event sector to ensure international visitors continue to have a world-class experience here.
This is a valuable professional development opportunity for event professionals, and we encourage people to attend the training in-person to make the most of the networking opportunities.”
ICCA CEO Senthil Gopinath adds: “Through two courses - CICE for experienced professionals, and CICS for new colleagues starting out - ICCASkills champions real-world learning and growth irrespective of age or experience. Positive feedback about the know-how and effectiveness of our expert instructors again shows the tangible value of attending courses designed for our industry, by our industry, especially in-person.
We salute Tourism New Zealand for their foresight and ongoing commitment to a programme that is changing our industry by empowering the people who work within it.”
